County Of Macomb Enforcement Team (COMET)

In 1982 participating law enforcement agencies in Macomb County, in conjunction with the Macomb County Sheriff's Department and the Michigan State Police, organized a task force to be known as the County of Macomb Enforcement Team (COMET). COMET's objectives were to provide the capability of conducting surveillance, detecting and apprehending persons who violate the narcotic and drug laws across multi-jurisdictional boundaries and to provide a means of training officers in these agencies in the techniques of narcotic and drug law enforcement. COMET's objectives remain the same in 2008.

COMET currently enjoys the following teams:

One team of undercover officers who conduct traditional undercover narcotics investigations in a supply and demand reduction effort. The team maintain a regional approach that reduces fragmentation and duplication of efforts endemic to the various independent drug teams.

A five person Conspiracy Crimes unit whose primary function is to further narcotics cases to higher level dealers. This group conducts money laundering investigations, wire taps, and analysis work.

The Community Response Team is available to help departments which may be facing specific isolated criminal matters such as break-ins, larcenies and/or CSC’s in a particular area. The team can provide surveillance in a target area or on a suspect. The team can also assist in cold case homicides and locating suspects and fugitives.

Participating agencies are:

  •  Michigan State Police (7)
  •  Macomb County Sheriff's Department (4+Canine)
  •  Warren Police Department (1)
  •  Clinton Township Police Department (1)
  •  FBI Macomb County (1)
  •  St. Clair Shores (1)
