Aviation Reserve Unit

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office can now search for criminals or suspicious activity from the sky.

Frequently Asked Questions

In just the few short weeks the aviation unit has been organized, the volunteer pilots have helped members of the Marine Division search Lake St. Clair near Harrison Township for a man who fell off a boat May 9.

Following the heavy rains last weekend, members of the unit also flew over the flood-ravaged areas of Macomb County to assess the damage.

“We are going to be the eyeballs in the sky,” said Matt Scarsella, 38, of Ray Township. Scarsella participated in the search for the missing boater with his two-seat, single-engine airplane, with a detective from the Sheriff’s Office. “It was exciting ... (the detective) was amazed at the perspective.”
