Michelle M. Sanborn
Jail Administrator
Michelle oversees the administrative operations of the Macomb County Jail.
The jail has 1458 beds, and is the largest single-site corrections detention
facility in the State of Michigan.
Michelle’s responsibilities include inspections, accreditations and
compliance with numerous federal, state and local mandates. She’s involved
in the revision of policies and procedures to improve efficiency of jail
operations, safety and security of the facility. Michelle over see’s
contracts for prisoner programs and services and is involved in technology
procurement, physical plant concerns, renovations and jail expansion
projects.
Michelle began working at the Macomb County Jail in 1984 as a Substance
Abuse Therapist. She holds a Masters Degree, is a Certified Social Worker
and Certified Jail Manager.
She implemented the first prisoner Pay to Stay program in Michigan, has been
active in conducting training seminars across the Nation, and is involved in
numerous committees and other related criminal justice projects. Michelle is
the former 1st Vice President of the American Jail Association, and served
14 years as the Secretary for the Michigan Sheriff’s, Jail Administrators’
Association.
