Captain Brenda Baker was the first female in the history of the Macomb County
Sheriff’s Office to attain the rank of Captain in June of 2007 and is the
highest ranking female command officer. Captain Baker was also the first female
to achieve the rank of Lieutenant in April of 2000.
Captain Baker is currently the Division Commander of Jail Operations Services.
Her responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of the jail,
personnel, policy & procedures, investigations, jail records, facility security,
as well as inmate services such as Work Release, Reimbursement, Classification
and prisoner work details.
Captain Baker joined the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office in 1989 as a Dispatcher.
In 1991, she was promoted to the rank of Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Road
Patrol. Captain Baker was promoted to the rank of Sergeant I in 1996. As
Sergeant I, she served as Road Patrol Supervisor, Jail Command, and then
eventually the Training Division Sergeant. In 1999, she was promoted to full
Sergeant and remained in the Training Division for 4 more years, as well as
working in the Detective Bureau.
Upon her promotion to Lieutenant, Captain Baker has been assigned to Jail
Operations, Administrative Lieutenant, Uniform Services, Macomb Auto Theft Squad
(MATS), Shift Commander and the County of Macomb Enforcement Team (COMET).
Captain Baker is actively involved in law enforcement and corrections training
at the Macomb Police Academy, Macomb Community College, Detroit Medical Center
Security and the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards as a Proctor
for the State Law Enforcement Pre-Employment Physical Agility Testing.
Lt. Baker received her Associate’s Degree from Macomb Community College and is a
graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. She
is attending Central Michigan University with a major in Public Administration.
