Explorer Post 565 is proudly sponsored by Sheriff Mark Hackel. The youth program is designed to let students between the ages of 14 and 20 “explore” a career in law enforcement to help them decide on future career plans. Students meet on a regular basis to learn about all areas of law enforcement and corrections. In addition the Explorers help the Sheriff by doing community service projects and assisting paid members of the department. Some examples of activities are:

  • Regularly scheduled meetings to train on all areas of law enforcement such as radio procedures, crisis negotiations, use of force, and self-defense.
  • The ride along program allows Explorers to ride on patrol with a Deputy in order to experience law enforcement as it happens.
  • Explorers often volunteer for civic and community service projects such as child fingerprinting and student patrols.

If you are between the ages of 14 and 20 and are interested in a career in law enforcement, this may be the program for you! Meetings are held every Wednesday night at the Sheriff’s Office in the Training Room (West Entrance) and usually last 1-2 hours.
